Preparing Yourself For The Newer Forms of Education
Are you overwhelmed and intimidated by the work your children are currently doing in school? Can you hardly believe the hours upon hours of daily homework they must endure, the accelerated levels of math they must learn, or the high-tech ways in which schools are delivering their curricula?
This article in the New York Times made me realize that pretty soon, our children will be learning in ways that we never could have imagined in our wildest Science Fiction-infused dreams. I’ve watched my niece struggle with the mounds of homework she has to do on a daily basis for years now, not to mention the accelerated levels of math that they have her learning! She just turned 13 last month and is in her final year of Middle School; I’m slightly frightened of what High School will bring for her. My son is only a month shy of 2 years old, so I can’t even begin to fathom what learning will be like when he is in Middle and High School. Will I need to go to special classes just to get myself to a place where I can actually help him with his 6th grade homework?
Probably.
Take heart though; I will be ever on the look-out for ways in which we, as the understudies of our children, can learn the parts we need to play in order to ensure that our children shine academically.
Stay tuned.
